On Monday and Tuesday, Cloverdale School held its first annual Hoops for Heart event to raise money for the American Heart Association, which funds heart and stroke research and prevention programs.

When she was 7 years old, Carly Swanson — who’s now 21— was diagnosed with cholesteoma, a condition that caused her to lose hearing in her right ear. Because of her condition, Swanson, who lives in Carol Stream, had social difficulties and found it nearly impossible to make connections with other people.
