Bloomingdale, IL -

Residents of four apartments in Bloomingdale have been displaced due to damaged caused by Monday’s storms.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado did touch down in Bloomingdale during the storms.

A National Weather Service report on the tornado is expected by 6 p.m. today, said Nathan Marseli, spokesman for the NWS’ Chicago office.

He said the storm packed winds between 85 and 110 miles per hour.

While the path of the tornado has not yet been listed or the extent of damage totaled, village officials have said investigators with the NWS have been in the village looking at the aftermath of the storm.

The most serious damage occurred at the Deer Glen apartment complex along Glen Ellyn Road, where four apartments suffered roof and window damage and have been ruled uninhabitable.

“We have been working with the [American] Red Cross in trying to find temporary shelter for residents of four different units in that building,” Director of Village Services Michael Marchi said.

“We are not sure when they will be allowed back into that portion of the building.”

Bloomingdale Village President Bob Iden has signed an emergency mutual aid declaration, asking for assistance from DuPage County and other governing bodies  in the cleanup.

Damage was centered between Schick and Army Trail roads, where both residential and business areas were hit, Marchi said. Most of the damage was from high winds and downed trees.

Several buildings in the Covington Business Park suffered roof damage. One business had a wall collapse; and some air-conditioning units on roofs were blown off, Marchi said.
