Bloomingdale, IL -

Mike Gawrych is our Noteworthy Neighbor of the Week. He’s the winner of the first-ever Roselle Public Works Department Snow Rodeo.

Twenty-one Public Works employees collaborated on the event that stressed the importance of teamwork in the snow removal process. The one-day event reviewed snow policy, plowing methods, vehicle controls, a written test, a pre-trip truck inspection test and a snowplow obstacle course. Some village employees performed better than others. Gawrych performed the best.

Kudos to the village for creating the Snow Rodeo.

Congratulations to Gawrych for becoming the first Roselle Snow Rodeo Champion.

Papa Christmas, Pancakes

From 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, Glendale Heights Mayor Linda Jackson’s Special Events Commission is hosting a one-on-one with the man from the North Pole.

The Sports Hub, 250 Civic Center Plaza, will become a Winter Wonderland. The breakfast event will feature all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and juice. The price is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for preschoolers.

Santa will be available to listen to wish lists. There will also be a marionette show. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by. Reservations aren’t necessary. For information, call (630) 668-9409.

Christmas in Poland

From 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, visitors to the Roselle History Museum, 102 S. Prospect Ave., will learn about holiday traditions in Poland. The annual open house will feature museum greeters dressed in colorful national attire and beautiful Polish Christmas decorations. The scent of homemade cookies will fill the air. For information, call Marie Engle at (630) 529-9354.

Singing Scouts

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, 22 members of Erickson Elementary School’s Cub Scout Pack 457 will be singing Christmas carols to residents of the Bloomingdale Horizon Independent Senior Living Community. I’m sure the residents will appreciate hearing holiday classics.

One Christmas wish granted

Glendale Heights Village Trustee Chester Pojack and his wife, Virginia, have already granted one Christmas wish. The Pojacks won the opportunity to become “Police Chief for the Day” through a silent auction sponsored by the Glendale Heights Jr. Women’s Club.

Instead of utilizing the opportunity, they handed it over to their 11-year-old grandson, Nikolas Demos. The very special day included a tour of the police department, the fire department, village hall and the DuPage County Field Courthouse in Glendale Heights.

According to reliable sources, Nikolas most enjoyed touring the 911 Communications Center. Thanks to Police Chief Michael Marron for providing this memorable Christmas gift.
