The new Berwyn Kia, located at 7051 W. Ogden Ave., celebrated its grand opening today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a host of city officials.
The dealership has been open since late March, and owner Al Meyer said that sales have already been brisk. Meyer, who also owns Willowbrook Kia, said he has high hopes for the Berwyn location.
“First of all, Berwyn is an underserved car market. We think Kia is the right product for the demographics of Berwyn,” Meyer said.
Mayor Robert Lovero also was on hand for the opening, and praised Meyer for expanding into Berwyn while many manufacturers are shuttering retail outlets.
“We worked really well together and this all came to fruition really quickly,” Lovero said. “There is not a lot of expansion in auto sales right now, so it’s really very exciting for us to have this Kia dealership open up.”
The new Kia dealership will be the eastern-most Kia outlet in the Chicagoland region, said Meyer. The dealership has also made a priority of hiring Berwyn residents.
“We put signs out right away that said we wanted to hire from within the community,” Meyer said. “We have 28 or 29 people on the payroll that wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the help of the city.”
