The Kane County Health Department announced on Tuesday that 20 people have been confirmed as swine H1N1 flu cases.
A backlog of test results came into the Health Department on Monday evening.
Investigations into each case will continue as the Health Department contacts the patients and their doctors, determines their locations, and whether or not they’re students.
According to the Health Department, a complicating factor is that cases are initially assigned to a jurisdiction according to physician or hospital that submits the test, which may lead to a discrepancy in numbers reported by the Health Department.
Executive Director of the Health Department Paul Kuehnert said that they are focusing on preventing the disease from spreading any further.
“As we’ve been saying from the beginning,” Kuehnert said. “This is a rapidly developing situation. With the state now able to conduct the tests, we hope the backlog that built up last week can finally be cleared up.”
Kuehnert said that if any new cases are students in Kane County schools, they will directly connect the affected district and make recommendations.
