Kane County, IL -

On Saturday three new probable cases of H1N1 (swine) flu in Kane County prompted health department officials to recommend the closing of another school.

U-46 school district officials took the health department’s advise to close Larkin High School in Elgin until May 7, after a 15-year-old Elgin students is believed to have contracted the H1N1 flu strain.

The other two probable cases announced Saturday in Kane County include a 22-year-old Elgin resident and 18-month-old from Aurora.

Despite the new probable cases, which have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation of the swine flu strain, health department officials released a statement Saturday saying the focus of their efforts to deal with the new virus has changed.

“We and other health departments in the region and our health care partners will shift from a focus on identifying and testing possible cases to a primary focus on preventing further spread of the infection and assuring medical treatment of those infected,” the statement said.

No probable swine flu cases in DuPage or Kane counties were confirmed by the CDC on Sunday.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, three cases of suspected H1N1 in Illinois have been confirmed by the CDC, with 96 still awaiting confirmation.

As of Sunday morning, suburban Cook County had 28 probable cases and none confirmed. DuPage County had 11 probable cases with one confirmed, and Kane County had 11 probable with non confirmed.
