Officials at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Western Springs reported no dip in attendance during its weekly masses in the wake of the swine flu threat.
As for precautions, the church is following the directives form the Archdiocese of Chicago, which asks parishioners who are ill to refrain from taking Holy Communion from the chalice, sharing the sign of peace with a nod instead of a handshake and to avoid close contact with others.
The archdiocese is also reminding people to practice good hygiene by frequently cleansing hands, either with soap and water or with an alcohol-based anti-bacterial solution.
There are no plans at this point to suspend or change either the Rite of Peace or Holy Communion from the Chalice.
First Presbyterian Church of La Grange officials said there has been no marked decrease in attendance at services and there are no plans at this time to alter or suspend communion at services.
