Police believe kitchen knife used to pry stereo from car
A kitchen knife was found on the dashboard of a 2000 Saturn sedan, which was burglarized in the 3300 block of Kenilworth Avenue, police said.
A CD player and radio were stolen after a window was smashed between 9:15 p.m. July 26 and 9 a.m. July 27, police said.
GPS system removed from vehicle on Grove Avenue
A global positioning system was removed from a 2004 Ford Escape between 2 and 10 a.m. July 27 in the 1500 block of Grove Avenue. no value given
Garage on 3600 block of Grove Avenue burglarized
A chainsaw, hedge trimmer and extension cord were stolen from a garage in the 3600 block of Grove Avenue. The incident was reported to police at 4:30 p.m. July 24, according to reports. There were no signs of forced entry, police said.
Car owner confronts man attempting to take stereo
A 44-year-old man heard the alarm go off on his 2000 Chrysler Cirrus, parked in front of his home in the 3600 block of Wesley Avenue, at about 1:45 a.m. July 23, according to reports.
He went to the car and saw the driver’s door open and a man sitting in the driver’s seat removing the stereo, police said.
Police said the car owner tried to grab the man, who got out of the car and ran away after dropping the stereo on the ground.
‘Beer Garden Open’ sign stolen from local bar
A “Beer Garden Open” sign that hung on the fence in front of the beer garden at The Fill-up Station, 2627 S. Ridgeland Ave., was stolen overnight between July 19 and 20, police said.
Wrapping strap with hand saves purse from theft
A man attempted to steal a woman’s purse at about 5:30 p.m. July 23 at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Cermak Road, police said.
The man walked past her pretending to talk on his cell phone when he grabbed her purse, police said. When the woman’s hands were wrapped around the purse straps, the man let go and ran away, police added.
Man charged with retail theft
Angel L. Pina, 21, of Stickney was arrested at about 8:45 p.m. July 7 for allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka from a Berwyn store, police said.
An employee of Berwyn Fruit Market, 3811 Harlem Ave., told police that Pina walked into the store with another man and a woman at about 8 p.m. The employee said Pina then took a bottle of Smirnoff vodka from a shelf and placed it into his back pocket, police said.
A store surveillance tape captured the license plate number of the vehicle Pina drove as the three left the store, reports said. Officers later found the three at the home listed on the vehicle’s registration. Pina was arrested and charged with retail theft.
Disorderly conduct alleged
Peter Ingoglia, 47, of the 2100 block of South Harvey Avenue, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. July 9, after a neighbor called police to report being harassed by the man.
The neighbor told police Ingoglia began making racist remarks to him and his family and attempted to instigate an physical altercation, police said. When police arrived, Ingoglia appeared intoxicated, according to reports. Officers discovered several nearby residents previously had filed harassment complaints against Ingoglia.
Ingoglia was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
