Cicero resident charged with DUI

Roberto Sanchez, 33, of Cicero was charged with felony driving under the influence after police spotted him driving in the wrong lane and nearly hitting another car, reports said.

Sanchez was driving west in the eastbound lane of 16th Street around Euclid Avenue in Berwyn at 1:15 a.m. July 5, according to reports. Police said they pulled Sanchez’s vehicle over after it nearly struck another car in the area.

Police said Sanchez was slurring his speech, swaying when he walked and smelling of alcohol. Sanchez was not able to provide officers with his driver’s license or proof of insurance, according to reports.

An open bottle of tequila was found between the driver and passenger seats of the vehicle, which police had towed, reports said.

In addition to the felony driving under the influence charges, Sanchez was cited with operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane use and illegal transportation of alcohol, according to police.

Electronics, $3,000 in cash stolen
 A video recorder, a digital camera, two video game systems and numerous DVDs and video games were stolen from a home on the 3800 block of Kenilworth Avenue, police said.

Police said burglars took nearly $3,000 in cash, a purse, seven pairs of gym shoes and various pieces of gold and diamond jewelry between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. July 5.
Officers said the thief appeared to have entered through the home’s back door.

Man charged with domestic battery
Letroy D. Jones, 31, of the 1900 block of Grove Avenue, was arrested for domestic battery around 12:45 a.m. July 6 after his girlfriend told police he hit her in the face, police said.

The woman told police she had been sleeping in her home when Jones woke her and began arguing. He then hit her and pulled out her hair weave, police said. The woman was able to leave her home and call police, reports said.

When police arrived, Jones said the argument began when he tried to stop his girlfriend from leaving the house because he believed she was too intoxicated.
Police arrested Jones, and he was charged with domestic battery.

Man steals cell phones
Employees of Berwyn Paging, 6806 Cermak Road, reported that a man stole two cell phones from the store at about 3:30 p.m. July 5, according to police reports.

The man reportedly stole a mobile phone and a walkie-talkie from a wall display in the store before running away.

GPS unit stolen from car
A Global Positioning System was stolen from a vehicle parked on the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue between 11 p.m. July 6 and 7 a.m. July 7, police said.

The vehicle’s owner told police he parked the gray 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander on the street near his home and found the front driver’s side window smashed when he returned in the morning. The GPS unit was taken from the car’s glove compartment and GPS mounting device was taken from the windshield, police said.

Minivan stolen
A gray 2000 Pontiac Montana was stolen from the 6900 block of West Ogden Avenue between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. July 7, police said. The owner had parked the minivan in a lot where he works, police said.

Suspect flees on bicycle after theft
Police said they are searching for a man who stole five instant lottery tickets and five packs of cigarettes from a gas station in the 6400 block of Roosevelt Road at about 1:15 p.m. July 9.

The man entered the store, walked behind the counter and grabbed the items before leaving the scene on his bicycle, heading east on Roosevelt Road. Police described the man as black, 25 to 30 years old, weighing about 185 pounds. He was wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a blue hat with a red brim.

The stolen items have total value of about $55, police said.

Man charged with retail theft
Angel L. Pina, 21, of Stickney was arrested at about 8:45 p.m. July 7 for allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka from a Berwyn store, police said.

An employee of Berwyn Fruit Market, 3811 Harlem Ave., told police that Pina walked into the store with another man and a woman at about 8 p.m. The employee said Pina then took a bottle of Smirnoff vodka from a shelf and placed it into his back pocket, police said.

A store surveillance tape captured the license plate number of the vehicle Pina drove as the three left the store, reports said. Officers later found the three at the home listed on the vehicle’s registration. Pina was arrested and charged with retail theft.

Disorderly conduct alleged
Peter Ingoglia, 47, of the 2100 block of South Harvey Avenue, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. July 9, after a neighbor called police to report being harassed by the man.

The neighbor told police Ingoglia began making racist remarks to him and his family and attempted to instigate an physical altercation, police said. When police arrived, Ingoglia appeared intoxicated, according to reports. Officers discovered several nearby residents previously had filed harassment complaints against Ingoglia.
Ingoglia was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
