Drum set stolen
A five-piece youth drum set was discovered missing at about 8 a.m. June 9, from a home in the 3200 block of South Maple Avenue police said.
The homeowner told police she went down to the basement to do laundry when she noticed a tent from a shelf was lying on the floor. She then noticed an open window and the drum set was missing from another shelving unit, police said.
The owner said the drum set was black and clear with stickers from the band Greenday pasted in various locations, police said. The set included a bass drum, three cymbals and a drum. The items were last seen at about 9:30 p.m. June 8.
Domestic battery alleged
Robert L. Dowdy, 43, of the 2600 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, Berwyn was arrested June 9 after he allegedly threatened and punched a person, police said.
Police responded to the home at about 4:45 p.m. Dowdy told police he and the person had argued but that everything was fine.
Dowdy was immediately handcuffed due to a known history of gang violence and police searched the residence, police said. They found the victim, who was in need of an oxygen tank for a pre-existing health condition, crying and visibly shaken, according to police reports.
The relative told police the two began arguing, and the victim threatened to call police. Dowdy pushed the victim into a chair and punched the person in the back of the head, according to police. The victim again threatened to call police, to which Dowdy reportedly replied, “If you do that, I’m gonna shoot you in the face and just go to jail,” police said.
Dowdy was charged with domestic battery and assault, police added.
Man cited after blocking car
Gerardo Alvarez, 26, of 2300 block of South Cuyler Avenue, Berwyn was cited June 9 for loitering after he allegedly blocked a squad car from being able to pass through an alley, police said.
Police were first called to the home at about 3:45 p.m. after neighbors had reported hearing a foot chase taking place in the alley the night before. Another resident of the home told police that his relative, Alvarez, had friends over that night, and they may have been gang members, police said.
Officers told the relative that Alvarez was not allowed to have gang members congregate in the alley, and officers would be checking the area to ensure the alley was clear.
At 5:15 p.m. police returned to the residence to check the alley and found Alvarez, the relative and several children playing basketball. The relative and children moved to the side to allow the squad car through, police said. Alvarez stopped in the middle of the alley, faced the squad car, and held the basketball up to his chest.
The officer motioned for Alvarez to move out of the way, and he refused, police said. The officer then exited the squad car and told Alvarez to put his hands on the hood of the car.
Alvarez was arrested and issued a local ordinance citation for loitering.
Landlord receives citation
A landlord’s report of a home invasion got her a disorderly conduct citation after it was discovered the “intruders” were actually her tenants, according to police reports.
Argentina McCann, 70, of the 1300 block of South Gunderson Avenue, Berwyn called police at about 7:15 p.m. and said she heard people in the basement, police said. She also told authorities she lived in the home by herself and no one should be there, police said.
When officers arrived, they found two men in the basement who said they were renting the space from McCann, police said. McCann later admitted they were her tenants, and she called police because they were being too loud, police said.
Police said McCann appeared to be highly intoxicated and was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn. She was issued local ordinance citation for disorderly conduct, police added.

The truck eventually turned around and pulled up next to the man. One of the vehicle’s occupants jumped out of the truck and pointed a pistol at him, police said.
