Car reported stolen from Home Avenue
A 1992 black Nissan Sentra was stolen from the 1500 block of South Home Avenue Aug. 12, according to police. The car, which had Wisconsin license plates, was reported stolen at about 11 p.m.
Police: $600 removed from purse at residence
Police said $600 was taken from a woman’s purse at about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 13 on the 1300 block of Clinton Avenue, police said.
The victim told police she stepped out to her porch for about 20 minutes and left her purse inside. When she returned, she saw that the purse was open and $600 was missing from her wallet, according to police. The woman said she had left her front door open and the purse was visible from the residence’s shared hallway.
Cicero man picks up six driving violations
Gerardo Garcia, 22, of Cicero, was charged with six traffic violations after being arrested near Harvey and Cermak roads at about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 18, police said.
An officer pulled over Garcia after witnessing him speeding, abruptly changing lanes and almost hitting another vehicle, according to police. The officer then saw Garcia and his passenger moving around suspiciously before Garcia tossed an aluminum can into the back of his 1997 black Chevy Blazer, police said.
When Garcia came to a stop, the officer observed two half empty cans of beer in the back of the vehicle, according to the report. Garcia was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol, improper lane use, improper passing, driving without a license, driving without proof of insurance and not wearing a seat belt.
Backpack stolen at Berwyn restaurant
A backpack containing a cell phone, an MP3 player and cash was stolen from a restaurant on the 6900 block of Ogden Avenue at about 11 p.m. Aug. 18, police said. The backpack’s owner said he had been in the parking lot playing tag for about an hour when he went back inside and found the bag missing. The estimated loss is $680.
