Flower pots stolen
Two cement flower pots filled with soil and flowers were stolen from a front porch in the 2400 block of South Euclid Avenue between 11:30 p.m. May 7 and 6 a.m. May 8, police said.
Apartment burglarized
An apartment in the 6200 block of West 21st Street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 8, police said.
A responding officer noticed an unlocked window with several items missing from the sill. The family reported stolen a radio, Barbie dolls, a Toshiba laptop, a bottle of tequila, Xbox gaming console and games, Nintendo GameCube console and games, police said. The family estimated the total value of stolen items at about $1,650.
Selena’s bar cited
Selena’s Sports Bar, 6320 W. 26th St., was issued an occupancy violation ticket May 9 after officers counted 77 people in the establishment, according to police. The maximum legal capacity for the business is 44, police said.
Officers responded to the area at about 2:30 a.m. for reports of a fight and people fleeing the area into neighboring bars, police said. An officer searching for the men in the fight noticed a large number of patrons inside of Selena’s, which had already begun closing for the night.
The officer stayed and counted people as they exited. The owners were issued a ticket and given a May 21 hearing in the Community Room of the Berwyn Police Department.
Stolen car found in city
Police recovered a car that had been reported stolen in Chicago May 8 in the garage of a vacant Berwyn home in the 2800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. May 9, police said.
A real estate agent conducting a weekly check of the property notified police of the vehicle. The vehicle did not appear to be damaged.
Gunshot incidents reported
Several residents in the vicinity of the 3500 block of South Euclid Avenue reported hearing four gunshots at about 10 p.m. May 9, police said.
Police searched the area but were unable to locate any damage or shell casings.
On May 10, residents near the 1500 block of South Kenilworth Avenue reported hearing three to four shots being fired in a nearby alley, police said.
Police checked the area but did not find any evidence of gunshots.
Bike thief nabbed
Carmen Contreras, 46, of the 7100 block of Windsor Avenue, Berwyn, was charged theft after being arrested May 10 after admitting to stealing a mountain bike earlier that day.
A resident of the 1900 block of South Scoville Avenue called police around 12:15 a.m. to report seeing a man walking away from her backyard with the mountain bike, police said.
The resident provided police with a detailed description. At about 1 a.m., a resident reported seeing two men, one of whom matched the description, with a similar bicycle at a gas station in the 3300 block of 3300 South Harlem Avenue, police said.
One of the men told police that Contreras was offering to sell him the mountain bike in exchange for $20 and an older bike. Contreras later admitted to taking to the bike and was arrested on charges of theft, police said.
Man racks up 9 citations
Fransisco Magos, 23, of Cicero, was arrested and given nine violations after crashing into a pole and attempting to flee from police at about 6 a.m. May 10, police said.
The chase began when an officer heard screeching tires followed by a large crash, police said. The officer started driving toward the apparent crash when a heavily damaged Chevrolet Impala, driven by Magos, sped past the officer going 51 mph in 25 mph zone on 16th Street.
Magos ignored the officer’s attempts to pull him over and eventually was trapped in a dead end, police said. Magos then attempted to run away but then heeded the officer’s commands to stop.
He was arrested on charges of driving with a revoked license, speeding, three counts of failure to signal, two counts of disobeying a stop sign, failure to wear a seat belt and attempting to elude an officer.
