Car reportedly damaged in Murray's parking lot
A 2005 Jeep Cherokee was reported damaged at about 12:30 a.m. July 28 at Murray’s, 2120 S. Oak Park St., police said. The sport utility vehicle had fresh scratch marks and two flattened tires.
Men attempt to rob couple at gunpoint on Maple Ave.
A couple in their early 40s walking south on Maple Avenue at about 10 p.m. July 28 were robbed at gunpoint.
According to reports, one of two men behind the couple asked whether they had change for a $20. When the couple said they did not, the offender pulled his T-shirt over his face, pulled out a black handgun and demanded money, police said.
Another man came up from behind the couple and started to pat down both people, according to police. The couple pulled both of their pockets out to show they did not have anything except for a house key. The men told the victims to walk north on Maple while they ran south on Maple, police added.
Summit man charged with driving under the influence
A man was found sleeping behind the wheel of his car parked in the intersection with the motor running at about 1 a.m. July 29 at Harlem Avenue and 23rd Street, police said.
Jose Guzman, 27, of Summit, was charged with one count of driving under the influence, driving without insurance and improper parking on the roadway, police said. He failed sobriety tests and refused to take breathalyzer test, according to reports.
Five cars reported stolen in separate incidents
• A 1994 GMC sport utility vehicle was reported stolen from the 6300 block of 28th Street, according to police. The owner last saw the SUV at 5 a.m. July 28.
• A 1994 four-door Buick Allure Century car was stolen between 10 p.m. July 28 and 6 a.m. July 29 on the 1400 block of Wenonah Avenue, police said.
• Police said Buick Le Sabre was stolen between 5 p.m. July 28 and 6 a.m. July 29 on the 1300 block of Kenilworth Avenue.
• A 1988 Oldsmobile car was stolen between 5 p.m. July 28 and 6 a.m. July 29 on the 1300 block of Kenilworth Avenue , police said.
• A 1995 Buick Century was stolen between 6:45 and 8:15 a.m. July 29 on the 1400 block of Grove Avenue.
Man faces DUI charge after hitting gasoline pump
A man allegedly struck a gas pump at the Shell gas station, 6400 Ogden Ave., with his car, causing a gas leak at about 7 p.m. July 29. The man then drove away after the accident.
After a traffic stop, James Earl Wooden, 25, of Matteson, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, blood alcohol count over 0.08, no driver’s license and driving without insurance.
Woman tried unauthorized bank account withdrawal
A caregiver attempted to make an unauthorized withdrawal from her Berwyn client’s bank account at Harris Bank in Chicago.
Police said two caregivers from a state agency visited a 50-year-old Berwyn woman at her home between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. July 30.
Later, the woman received a call from Harris Bank stating that someone at the bank wanted to cash a check in the amount of $400 and the bank wanted to confirm the withdrawal, according to police reports.
The bank employee reported the woman ran away after she realized that the bank was calling the victim. The woman did not have any information on the caregivers other than their names.
Strong armed robbery attempt made
A man was parking his van in his garage on the 2700 block of Highland Avenue and walking toward his house when he was approached by two men during the evening July 30, police said.
One told the man to hand over money, and the victim had grabbed his own cell phone and dialed 911 yelling for police to help him, according to reports.
The other man grabbed at his waist band, but the victim was unsure whether he saw a weapon.
The man pulled a T-shirt up over his nose to mask his face and grabbed at the victim’s pockets demanding money. The two men then ran away east on 28th Street after one of the men’s baseball cap fell off, police said.
