Cadillac reported stolen
A white 2004 Cadillac Escalade was stolen between 3 and 3:30 a.m. May 28 in the 2800 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, police said.
The owner told police she had just exited the car and went upstairs to her apartment when she realized she did not have her keys. She went back to see if she had dropped the keys, and the vehicle was gone.
Retail theft alleged
Carlos Perez, 23, of Aurora was charged with one count of retail theft for allegedly attempting to steal a pair shoes and a shirt from Marshals, 7163 W. Cermak Road, at about 2:30 p.m. May 28, police said.
A store security agent told police she saw Perez put the items, worth $20, into a guitar case and exit the store before she confronted him.
Police also learned Perez had an outstanding warrant from the Aurora Police Department. He was arrested and placed in custody until his extradition by the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.
2 nabbed for car burglary
A Chicago man and a Cicero man were arrested at about 1 a.m. May 26 for their alleged involvement in a car burglary in the 3600 block of South Harvey Avenue, police said.
Juan S. Espinoza, 25, of Chicago and Derek Guzman, 21, of Cicero both face felony burglary to vehicle charges after a witness reported seeing them steal a stereo from a 2010 Ford Explorer, police said.
Officers arrived as a dark Nissan Altima was pulling away from the curb. An officer pulled over the car while another officer searched for a second man reportedly running from the area.
Police later determined the car’s occupants, Espinoza and a 17-year-old girl, were involved in the burglary. The girl told police Espinoza had called her because he needed a ride. When she picked him up in Guzman’s car, Espinoza jumped in and said “Go,” just as officers arrived, according to police.
Police were unable to track down Guzman, who had fled on foot, but he later turned himself in, police said. Both men were charged with burglary. The girl was released without charges.
The vehicle’s owner said a stereo and speakers, worth about $600, had been stolen.
Battery alleged
A Berwyn man was arrested May 26 after he allegedly attacked his neighbor and broke his window because he believed the man caused his dog to run away, police said.
The neighbor told police he arrived home at about 3:30 p.m. to find Michael L. Sechen, 28, of the 6900 block of West Cermak Road, waiting at his back door. Sechen’s hands were bleeding and a back window had been broken, police said. Sechen followed the man into his home and accused him of hitting his dog, who had run away earlier in the day, according to police. The neighbor asked Sechen to leave, but he refused and attacked the man, police said. Another neighbor arrived to separate the two until police arrived.
The third neighbor told police he had helped Sechen search for the dog earlier in the day. He said Sechen was angry and believed the dog ran away because it was afraid of the victim.
Sechen was taken to MacNeal Hospital for the injuries sustained to his hands. Police said they later found the victim’s house keys with Sechen.
Sechen was charged with battery, criminal damage to property and theft, police said.
