Berwyn police responded to a disturbance call at about 1:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of Oak Park Avenue Sunday. When officers arrived, they found Anthony Yracheta, 22, stabbed multiple times in his apartment.
He was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 a.m., according to Berwyn Mayor Robert Lovero.
The Berwyn Police Department did not return calls for comment and City Administrator Brian Pabst was unavailable for comment on the incident.
Following the incident, officers brought Yracheta’s brother, Alexander Yracheta, 18, who lived in the same apartment to the police station for questioning. After an investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorneys office approved one count of murder against Alexander Yracheta.
Lovero said a pit bull at the apartment attempting to attack an officer and was shot and killed by police. As the officer was attempting to avoid the dog, he stumbled and hit his head, Lovero said. The extent of the officer’s injuries were unknown.
Alexander Yracheta had a bond hearing Monday, Sept. 28, in Cook County Circuit Court where bond was set at $700,000. He has a preliminary hearing date of Friday.
