Longmont, Colo., and former Clarendon Hills, Berwyn and Chicago resident Joseph Kolar, 89, died Jan. 4, 2008, in Longmont United Hospital.

Services were held Jan. 8 in Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Cremation was private.
Mr. Kolar grew up in the Chicago and Berwyn area and graduated from Morton High School in Cicero. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He attained the rank of Bosun’s Mate Second Class by the time he left the service.

Mr. Kolar lived in Clarendon Hills for 45 years before moving to Longmont. He was a typesetter in the printing business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading and photography. He also enjoyed watching soccer, hockey and golf, and working in his flower and vegetable garden. He and his wife traveled to many places in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Mr. Kolar was a member of the Catholic Church and the Guadalcanal Veteran’s Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his cousins, Henry (Aileen) Kolar and Roy (Lucille) Kevton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
