Augustana senior and Morton graduate Alberto Quiros earned first place in the 149-pound weight group at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships on Thursday. His win also earned him the Most Outstanding Wrestler honor alongside teammate Jordan Richardson, which was the first time since 2005 that the Vikings had received the honor.
Quiros, who was the second seed at 149, earned a pair of victories at the championship. He defeated Eric Oyster of North Central in the semi-finals (8-5) and then beat the No. 1 seed Ryan Early of Elmhurst 6-5 in the final.
His wins helped Augustana finish in second place in the conference behind Elmhurst with 77 points. It was the highest finish for the Vikings since 2004.
