Two men were charged in connection with two Brookfield residential burglaries that occurred Oct. 26.

When one of the burglaries occurred, a resident noticed a suspicious car and relayed the car’s license information to the police. Brookfield, Downers Grove and Berwyn police officers, along with the Major Case Assistance Team, began surveillance on the suspect vehicle.

Javier Granados, 19, and Julian Cortez, 17, both of Berwyn were arrested Nov. 3 in Forest Park.

The men were part of a daytime burglary ring involving six people — three juveniles and three adults. The ring is believed to have committed crimes in Berwyn, Riverside, La Grange, Downers Grove and Western Springs, police said.

Riverside Police were also invovled in the arrest, and an e-flash report from the Riverside Police Department identified the six men as active gang members. Riverside PD said the men had been “sent out by their leadership (as many as 30 members a day) in order to commit burglaries.” A burglary in the 3600 block of Harlem Ave. in Riverside may be linked to the burglary ring, but police are still investigating.

At the time of the arrests, items from past burglaries, including several firearms were recovered.

Granados was charged with two counts of residential burglary. Cortez was charged with residential burglary and possession of stolen property. Both have a court date on Nov. 18 at the Maybrook Courthouse, 1500 Maybrook Drive,  Maywood.
