Five Morton West High School students received college scholarships as part of the BerwynCARES annual scholarship program.
Christina Mendez, Justin Gonzalez, Allison Demes, Monica Hernandez and Joseph Rodriguez each received $1,000 scholarships and were presented with the awards June 24 at the Tamale Hut Cafe in North Riverside.
Gonzalez, Mendez, and Rodriguez all plan to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall. Hernandez plans to follow her older sister to Dominican University, while Demes has been accepted to the University of Chicago.
BerwynCARES is a non-profit organization designed to promote community involvement Berwyn’s education system. The group held a series of fund raisers throughout the past year to be able to provide the scholarships.
