Two men remain at large after they held a gun to a Berwyn resident’s head twice and robbed him after he visited an ATM and returned to his apartment this weekend.
A resident of the 7100 block of 16th Street was reportedly robbed of $100 cash at gunpoint at 6:48 a.m. Saturday, July 2.
Two of the four men believed to be involved were arrested the day the incident occurred. The other two men remain at large.
The victim, a 42-year-old Berwyn resident, told police that he withdrew $100 from ATM at the Citgo gas station in the 1300 block of Harlem Avenue and began walking home just before 6 a.m. While en route to his apartment, a man approached the victim and asked to borrow his cellphone to call his girlfriend, according to police records.
The two men continued walking toward the victim’s apartment, and once they arrived, the subject asked the victim to open the door. The first man then grabbed the victim by the collar and pinned him against the wall, police said.
The second man entered the apartment building’s vestibule and put a gun to the victim's temple and demanded money while threatening to shoot the victim, who gave them the $100 he had recently withdrawn from the ATM.
At that point, the victim allegedly noticed two additional men standing outside the building acting as lookouts.
The two assailants then forced the victim to take them into his apartment. One of the two men held a gun again to the victim's head and made him kneel while the other subject ransacked the apartment, police said.
The two men then left the victim’s home with his keys and fled in an unknown direction. The victim immediately called police.
After taking brief descriptions from the victim, police were able to apprehend two suspects listed as John A. Harris, 19, and Sybastian Humphries, 19, at 6:59 a.m. near the intersection of Maple Avenue and 16th Street. The victim positively identified the two men as the ones who acted as lookouts during the attack.
Harris and Humphries, both Chicago residents, have since been charged with one count each of armed robbery.
Warrants have been issued for the two assailants based on information obtained during a subsequent investigation by the Berwyn Police Department, but they have not yet been brought into custody.
Anybody with information about the wanted suspects are asked to call the Berwyn Police Department at (708) 795-5600.
