Berwyn, IL -

Nearly $2 million in drugs and firearms were recovered during a drug bust in Berwyn Monday.

Berwyn police officers and officers from the Cook County Sheriff's Department and the Cook County High Intensity Drug Interdiction Unit served a search warrant at 2237 S. Ridgeland Ave. at about 11:40 p.m. Nov. 2, according to Berwyn Police Cmdr. Michael Cimaglia.

Officers took two people, a man and his girlfriend, into custody and searched the apartment for drugs.

During the search, officers found 6 kilograms of cocaine, 4 ounces of heroin, 2 pounds of marijuana, ecstasy pills and 10 firearms, Cimaglia said.

The woman was released from police custody, but the man remains in custody while charges are being filed, according to police. Cimaglia said the estimated street value of the drugs seized was $1.8 million.

The Berwyn Police Department will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, to discuss further details about the drug bust.
