A Berwyn man’s bond was set at $500,000 Friday, after being charged in pedestrian attacks in downtown Chicago which sent numerous people, some elderly, to the hospital.
Gregory Perdue, 29, of the 1900 block of Euclid Avenue in Berwyn, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery to senior citizens, three counts of aggravated battery in a public place and six counts of aggravated battery, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Around 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening, police say six pedestrians were punched and beaten by Perdue while walking near the Cook County Administration Building, at 69 W. Washington St. in Chicago’s Loop area.
The attacks’ victims included ABC 7 news anchor Cheryl Burton, according to the station’s Web site.
Victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and were treated minor injuries, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Perdue has previously been arrested but not convicted on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing, among others, according to court records.
Last year, he was sentenced to 40 days in Cook County Jail by Judge William O’Malley after pleading guilty to charges of misdemeanor battery and assault, according to records.
Perdue appeared in court this morning for a bond hearing under Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois, according to a spokeswoman for the state’s attorney’s office.
He will return to court on Wednesday at branch 42 in Chicago, the state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman said.
