Olive or Twist “The Restaurant” recently expanded into a second storefront and full-service restaurant at 6908 W. Windsor Ave.
Through the city of Berwyn and the Berwyn Development Corporation, the project received $70,000 intax increment district financing and a city-backed commercial loan for interior improvements, including architectural design, demolition, carpentry, doors, electric, HVAC, ceiling, fire sprinklers, plumbing and flooring.
City officials said they think the popular martini bar is a significant addition to Berwyn's Depot District because it will bring foot traffic to the area. The Berwyn Development Corporation has been looking to attract more restaurants to the Depot District for more than two years.
The restaurant celebrated its upgrades with a grand-opening Tuesday night.
“The Depot District is different from our other commercial corridors because it doesn't have the vehicle count,” said Tony Griffin, executive director of the Berwyn Development Corporation. “We're always looking for businesses where people want to bring their whole family or a date in to the Depot District, especially ones that are pedestrian-friendly.”
Executive Chef Robert Nava will helm the kitchen. Nava has broad experience in the culinary arts and is a well-renowned chef.
“Nava's credentials are phenomenal. We're really fortunate to have him here in Berwyn,” Griffin said.
Berwyn Mayor Robert Lovero also lauded the restaurant as a sign that the city was moving forward in spite of a troubling economy.
“I think it's a good omen for the city of Berwyn, especially on an upscale place like this,” Lovero said. “I'm very excited about looking towards 2012 and the direction the city is headed.”
