Forty-seven high schools were named by the Illinois ACT State Organization as having at least one student enrolled achieving a perfect score on the ACT.
“Earning a top composite score on the ACT is a distinctive honor for the student, but also for the school where the student has learned,” said Bob Murray, dean of enrollment management at the Illinois Wesleyan University, and ACT state representative.
The percentage of students in Illinois receiving the highest score of 36 on the test is small.
Nationally, more than 1.4 million students graduated in 2008 and 428 of those students received a perfect score.
Illinois graduates in 2008 totaled more than 140,000 students and only 62 of those students achieved a 36.
Compared nationally, the average ACT score in 2008 was 21.1.
The ACT tests in areas of English, math, reading and science, with the final score being an average of those four areas.
“The schools recognized today have provided outstanding educational opportunities and these students have taken full advantage of these opportunities as they prepare for college,” Murray said.
