The president of the management company looking to tear down Berwyn’s iconic Spindle probably said it best: “For good or for bad, people know where Berwyn is because of the Spindle.”
After the Life broke the news July 4 that the famous car-kabob was coming down, the world has been following the story. More than 150 media outlets, including major newspapers and television networks, picked up the story — some as far away as London, France and Canada.
But the people most affected by the news are those residents in our own community.
That’s why we want to hear from you.
We’re calling on readers to send us your thoughts about the Spindle. In 250 words or fewer, let us know your fondest memory of the sculpture (if you got engaged under the skewered cars, we definitely want to hear from you). Tell us what the Spindle means to you, how the art makes you feel and what it means for the City of Berwyn. If you’ve got unique photos or interesting angles of the Spindle, we’d like to see them, too.
Get those entries in right away; the deadline is July 27. We’ll print the best — along with your photo — that you can cut out for posterity sake.
