It was a dark and scary night in Berwyn with ghosts, goblins, and the occasional jester roaming Proksa Park for the Berwyn Park District’s “Safely Spooky” event Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Park District’s annual Halloween festival drew hundreds of residents to the park Saturday night for hay rides, a large bonfire and a haunted walk.

The walk took those brave enough to make the trek through the southern unlit portion of the park.
It may have been scary for some, but Berwyn resident Michael Holakovsky said the walk did not spook him.

“They do a very good job scaring people... not me, but the kids,” Holakovsky said.

Tom Covell took time to stand by the bonfire he helped create. Covell, the owner of All My Sons Moving and Storage in Broadview, donated about 100 wooden storage crates to the Park District for the annual bonfire on one of the park’s baseball diamonds.

“It’s a beautiful thing,” Covell said as he watched the wood burn to ashes. “Now I don’t have to move it anymore.”
