Berwyn, IL -

When Irving School Principal Dan Lane was told he had been awarded the Pav YMCA’s annual Teeter Award, he did not believe the news.

“I was blown away. I thought it was a prank,” Lane said. “I never realized that I made that much of an impression on anybody in Berwyn, except the students.”

Despite his humbleness, Lane’s impact on Berwyn is undeniable. As president of the South Berwyn Education Foundation, Lane has helped raise thousands of dollars through his annual circus and golf outings. He has volunteered for PTA events and fundraisers, is an annual judge for Pav YMCA’s Best of Berwyn program, served on the Governor’s Project Success and created the popular child’s fair.

“The community has been very good to me and I feel I have a duty to give back,” Lane said. “I do what I think is necessary to do a good job.”

June 13 will mark the beginning of summer vacation for school staff, and the end of Lane’s 37-year career as an educator, 18 of them in Berwyn.

But do not expect Lane’s retirement to slow him down. When he is not fulfilling his duties as South Berwyn School District 100’s part-time public relations coordinator, he plans on moving to Morris, marrying his fiancee Barbara, spending time with his three children and taking his Boxer Rocky on a few more walks.

Notable
Lane’s extensive community service involvement includes, annual Best of Berwyn judge, organizing Irving PTA fund raisers such as movie nights and fun fairs, President of the South Berwyn Education Foundation, and organizer of the annual Cog Hill Golf Outing and Kelly Miller Circus.

& quotable
