College news

• Theresa Hudik of Berwyn was named to the spring-semester dean’s list with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average at Columbia College, Chicago. She serves on the Executive Board of the Cicero Postal Advisory Council and is a member of the Joyful Noise choir at St. Leonard Church, Berwyn.

• Nora Mastny of Berwyn was named to the 2006-07 academic year dean’s list at the University of Chicago. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum 3.25 grade-point average.

• Lizette Dorantes of Berwyn received a bachelor of arts degree from Illinois State University, Normal, during summer commencement exercises.

• Berwyn resident Nayelli Ayala and Cicero residents Vanessa Acosta, Anna Bystrek, Raquel Magana, Daniel Marquez and Rosa Romero received bachelor’s degrees from Dominican University, River Forest, during May commencement ceremonies.

Open House

• Fenwick High School will host an eighth grade open house for parents and students from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the school, 505 W. Washington Blvd., Oak Park. Families will meet in the Lawless Auditorium for a brief introduction followed by various academic presentations and building tour. Faculty, staff and students will be available to answer any questions.

• Montini Catholic High School will host an open house at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, for grade school students and their families in the school, 19 W 070 16th St., Lombard. Each of the school’s academic departments will offer a sampling of the work being done by teachers and students in their classes. Coaches, moderators and students will informally talk about their extra-curricular activities and athletic teams.

Cook County Farm Bureau Foundation news

• The Cook County Farm Bureau Foundation offered a fully funded, two-day, overnight trip on Sept. 27 and 28 to schools who have an approved agricultural program.

This year’s program consisted of students from Thornwood High School, Chicago High School for Ag Sciences, Wells Academy and John Marshall High School and five teachers. Students visited an Indiana dairy farm, O’Hare Airport, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a renewable energy wind farm, among other sites.
