Lemont's long quest for a trip to state in girls soccer ended quickly Tuesday.
Tammy Contorno's goal in the first 15 seconds of the second overtime gave the Indians a 1-0 win over Chicago University High in the Class 2A Benedictine super-sectional.
Lemont, which reached the super-sectionals last year before falling to Homewood-Flossmoor on penalty kicks, will face Chatham-Glenwood at 1 p.m. Friday in the state semifinals at North Central College in Naperville.
"I thought a hard shot would go in, just seeing the keeper and how she was playing I knew she couldn't handle those kinds of shots," Contorno said. "I told all the girls 'rip (shots) as hard as you can because one of them will go in.' So getting that ball after the kickoff — I don't even know what happened. I just shot it and saw it go in, and there was so much excitement. It was unbelievable."
