Riverside, IL -

Riverside police have a possible suspect in a December 2008 carjacking case.

On Nov. 5, the Illinois State Police Crime Lab contacted the Riverside Police Department stating one of the fingerprints recovered from the stolen vehicle was matched to an Illinois Department of Corrections prisoner.

The suspect is in custody at an DOC facility in southern Illinois and will be interviewed by Riverside police detectives.

On Dec. 29, 2008 at about 1:30 a.m., officers responded to an armed vehicle carjacking at First and Forest avenues. The carjacker ordered two people out of the car at gunpoint, and the carjacker fled the scene in the victims’ car.

At 2:35 a.m. that morning, the victims’ car was involved in a traffic accident in Downers Grove, police said. Downers Grove police told Riverside officers the suspect’s vehicle and the victims’ vehicle were both found at the scene in Downers Grove.

Both cars were taken to the Riverside Police Department for evidence processing, and the evidence was then submitted to the Illinois State Police crime lab.
