The Starbucks on York Street is getting a major facelift.
The store, at 164 N. York St., closed June 21 and will be under construction until Thursday, July 2.
Starbucks officials did not return calls for comment, but an employee at the location who refused to provide a name said despite the massive renovation, the store still is open with a small cafe booth outside and in the front of the store.
The location will be fully closed only on Tuesday and Wednesday before its grand re-opening, the employee said. Metropolitan Construction will be doing the work, Dubiel said.
The company plans to spend $134,000 on the remodel. Dubiel said according to permit plans, minor changes will be made to the layout.
“It is going to change a little bit,” Dubiel said. “It’s going to be similar but is changing a little bit. There will still be chairs and tables in the front and the counter (in the back), but the counter is reconfigured.”
The washrooms will stay in the same location, and some things, such as the cabinetry, will be replaced, he said.
Starbucks had to request and obtain an interior remodel permit from the city, which it did on May 29, Dubiel said. The company also had to receive a permit from the DuPage County Health Department because it is a food and beverage company, Dubiel said.
Because the store already had a sidewalk cafe permit before the construction began, they were allowed to operate a small cafe during the renovation, Dubiel said.
