• Highlands Presbyterian Church, 1902 W. 59th St., La Grange, invites children ages 3 through those who have completed sixth grade to join in the fun and learn about the treasures of God’s love at this summer’s Vacation Bible School, “SonWorld Adventure,” Monday, Aug. 18, to Friday, Aug. 22. Kids will meet daily from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. Activities include reading and listening to Bible stories, learning and singing new songs, acting out Bible stories, working on crafts and playing games. A program will be presented for parents on Aug. 22, and will be followed by a  picnic-style lunch. Cost for the week-long program is $5 per child, maximum is $15 per family. • Loving Hands Preschool will have an open house for preschool registration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20. Coffee, fruit, juice, coffee cake and muffins will be served in the gym. The preschool is at 6455 Joliet Road, Countryside. Registration is open for 2, 3 and 4-year-olds who have reached that age by Sept. 1. For further information, call (708) 354-1426.

• La Grange Bible Church, 850 S. Seventh Ave., will begin its 2008-09 Wednesday evening youth programs at 7 p.m. Sept. 3. Boys and girls ages 4 years to sixth grade are invited to participate in AWANA Boys and Pioneer Girls. Youth in grades seventh and eighth are invited to join Power Source.

• On Sunday, Aug. 17, the Rev. Leslie Ritter-Jenkins will preach “Dance Like No One is Watching” at the First Congregational Church of Western Springs. The service begins at 9:30 a.m. The church is at 1106 Chestnut St., Western Springs. For further information, call (708) 246-1900, Ext. 31.

• Warren Park Presbyterian Church, 6130 W. 21st St., Cicero, will offer the Alpha Course: An Opportunity to Explore the Meaning of Life, on Thursdays for 10 weeks beginning Sept. 11. The class will begin with fellowship around the dessert table at 7 p.m. and conclude after the lesson and discussion at 9 p.m. There is no charge. • The Brookfield United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream social from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at 3541 Park Ave., Brookfield. Cost is $2 for children 10 and under, and $4 for adults. All are welcome.

• The Comboni Missionaries will be holding their annual St. Comboni Fest Saturday, Aug. 23, on the grounds of the Comboni Mission Center at 1615 E. 31st St., La Grange Park. Admission is free and the picnic begins at noon with celebration of Mass on the patio at 3 p.m. For further information, call (708) 354-1999.

• Paul Wheeler, director of the Comboni Lay Missionary Program, announced that at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, they will host a mission evening at the Comboni Mission Center, 1615 E. 31st St., La Grange Park. Light refreshments will be served. For further information, call (708) 588-1603.

• St. Louise de Marillac’s Religious Education Program in La Grange Park will begin classes Sept. 3. Currently registered families and families newly registered in the parish who have not yet enrolled are invited to contact the Religious Education Office for registration forms and tuition information by calling (708) 482-8814.
