An Addison school will finally have a playground, thanks to a non-profit organization.
But first, the school needs to raise $10,000 for playground equipment.
Addison School District 4 has announced that KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization with the goal of building play spaces within walking distance of every child in North America, will be building a playground at Ardmore School in October.
Ardmore, located at 600 S. Ardmore Ave., has an enrollment of nearly 600 preschool and kindergarten students.
The playground will be built by community volunteers and members of KaBOOM!, Principal Michele Ramsey said. A Chicago Bear is even slated to lend a hand.
KaBOOM!, corporate sponsor Home Depot and the National Football League will be partnering with Ardmore to build a playground behind the school that is designed for children from 3 to 6 years old, district spokeswoman Diane Junokas said.
Chicago Bear defensive back Charles Tillman is expected to join volunteers in building the playground.
For the past decade, KaBOOM! has used a community-build model to bring together business and community interests to construct nearly 1,000 playgrounds, skate parks, sports fields and ice rinks across North America.
Army Trail and Lincoln schools in Addison previously worked with the group.
