Driscoll Catholic High School has been given two weeks to devise a plan and raise funds to keep the school open next year.
Parents, students, and alumni were sent a letter from the Driscoll fundraising comittee today informing them of the possibility the school will remain open after the end of the 2008-09 school year.
The supporters and the Christian Brothers will meet to discuss the future of the school on April 20. If the Christian Brothers agree with Driscoll's business plan, the school would be saved from closing and look to continue on for the next 43 years, according to Driscoll Development Director Dave Schwabe.
"This is not just a band-aid to get us through next year," Schwabe said. "If we get a million dollars by April 20, this will never be a problem again."
A woman involved in the fundraising effort said fundraising chair Gene Faut is currently in talks with the Chicago White Sox organization, who are looking to donate a $500,000 to the school.
The fundraising committee has planned several events over the next week to help the school. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, the school will host a pasta dinner, and the committee will host a charity event on April 17 at Heat Night Club in Schaumburg.
