A DuPage County Circuit Court judge has postponed a ruling on Chicago’s bid to demolish properties in Bensenville for O’Hare Airport expansion until next month.
Judge Kenneth Popejoy was expected to rule Thursday on the measure, but will not make a ruling until Thursday, Aug. 7, Bensenville village officials said.
An “11th hour plea” press conference called by Bensenville Village President John Geils and residents living near those properties for Thursday morning was canceled due to the judge’s decision.
Geils said in a statement that the village of Bensenville greatly appreciates the time and care which Judge Popejoy is applying in making his decision.
The city of Chicago is looking to move forward on plans to demolish some 500 properties that have been purchased in Bensenville to build a new southern runway. The village is fighting the measure, and the court has slapped am injunction on the city’s plans , which could be lifted or continued by Popejoy.
Geils said he and village residents and representatives will continue their decades-long fight with Chicago between now and August 7th when Judge Popejoy issues his ruling.
