ADDISON, IL -

After two weeks of fundraising, developing a strategic plan, and many late nights, the fate of Driscoll High School is in the hands of the Christian Brothers.

Gene Faut and several fundraising committee members met with the Brothers for more than three hours Tuesday, presenting a plan to save the school from closing after this year.

“There was meaningful dialog throughout, and a series of great questions from those in attendance,” Faut said. “We left the meeting feeling good about what we have accomplished and that we delivered on our commitment to developing a viable solution for the future of Driscoll Catholic.”

Fundraising committee member Joan Sinnott believes the strategic plan, which was presented to full auditoriums at Driscoll in three showings April 19, looks great and was very well received by those in attendance.

“Everyone had a confidence level that the team had put together a strong and viable plan for the future,” Sinnott said.

Sinnott said the plan is conservative, with concrete ideas that are realistic and achievable if the school is allowed to continue after the end of the school year. The plan calls for a year for the school to stabilize, and then work on a growth stage.

“We’re very confident (the Brothers) will see the very hard work involved,” Sinnott said. “There is an extreme passion from every single person involved in the committee.”

Faut said the Brothers will look over the plan and deliver their decision to the committee within a week.

Sinnott said the fundraising efforts continued through Tuesday morning, and the total raised was near $875,000. A figure of $1 million was needed before Tuesday’s meeting.

The committee of 20 Driscoll parents, faculty and alumni and hundreds of volunteers put together more than a dozen fundraising events and received money from more than 15 states.

“I am just absolutely amazed by what has happened,” Sinnott said. “Going through it has been an experience of a lifetime for many of us to make such a profound difference in the lives of so many."
