• The West Suburban Chapter of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wheaton. Dr. Kyle Dzapo, professor of music at Bradley University, will present “Handel: Beyond the Messiah.”

• The Bartlett Woman’s Club will have their first meeting of the new business year at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Log Cabin, 102 N. Eastern Ave., Bartlett. They will begin with a social and will follow with a business meeting. The Bartlett Woman’s Club celebrates 70 years of community service and is for women 18 years and older. • The Choral-Aires, an award-winning Sweet Adelines Chorus, seeks new members and invites local women who love to sing to attend practices Mondays from 7 to 10 p.m. at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 Spring Road. For information, contact Jane Toftey at (630) 665-8387.

• The first Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club meeting of the 2008-09 club year feature Chicago history detective Victor Giustino presenting “Unknown Chicago.” The program begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 557 Duane St. Giustino, Chicago scholar, has given more than 500 tours of Chicago. • The Glen Ellyn Newcomers Club’s Activities Fair and Membership Signup will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at St. Marks Church. Glen Ellyn. Newcomers is a social organization founded in 1952 to welcome people to Glen Ellyn area. The club hosts a variety of social and philanthropic activities, in addition to monthly meetings with special guest speakers. • The Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties, Inc., an organization of more than 250 women committed to helping at-risk youth in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties, will welcome its 2008-09 new member class during a special event at Reins of Change in Elgin Saturday, Sept. 6. After a summer of informational socials, new members will attend their first official JLKD meeting and participate in the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association Certified program at Reins of Change, which is owned by sustaining JLKD member Amy Lomas. During the course of the six-hour training, the JLKD leadership team, Rains of Change staff and resident horses, will work with the new members to develop strategic communications and problem solving skills.
