A wine glass is issued at the door. Sounds like my kind of party.
If that sounds like your kind of party too, then clink over to the Salt Creek Golf Club, 701 Thorndale Ave., tomorrow night for the Wood Dale Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction.
The Friday wining, complete with rinse buckets, begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m. The Jim Gifford Jazz trio will perform 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Advance tickets are at the chamber office for $20 each or a table of 10 for $175. Tickets will also be available at the door for $25 each. Seniors age 60 and older can purchase tickets whenever at a discounted rate of $15 each. Attendees must be 21 and older.
With more than 140 tickets already sold and a 200-person capacity, organizers think they might sell out.
“This is such a cool event as a date night or a company outing.” Barb McCauley, the event’s co-chairwoman said. “It’s a great atmosphere that’s perfect for after work. This is just an event that seems to grab everybody because it’s such a class act.”
The 25 to 30 wines up for tasting will be supplied by Wine Styles of Arlington Heights and have been specially selected to compliment the hors d'oeuvres, which include such delicacies as crab rangoon, bruschetta, ham and turkey pinwheels, cubed meats and cheeses, an array of fruit, a sweet table and more.
More than 35 items have been collected for the silent auction. Some of these include: his and hers bikes, golf foursomes, a color laser printer, wine tours, overnight hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates and gift baskets packed with goodies such as hardware, movie passes and more.
There also will be split-the-pot raffles throughout the evening.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry and the Combined Scholarship Program, a joint effort between the Wood Dale Chamber of Commerce and the City of Wood Dale to help graduating Wood Dale high school seniors. After the six $600 scholarships are funded, the rest of the money goes to the food pantry. Last year, $700 was donated.
“It might be only $600, but it’s still $600,” McCauley said. “From helping pay for groceries to shampoo or books, these scholarships are nice because they’re just a little boost of money the student can use for whatever they choose.”
This is the Chamber’s third annual Wine Tasting & Silent Auction. It successfully replaced the Taste of Wood Dale, and last year was held on a Friday instead of a Thursday to draw a bigger crowd.
“It was successful from the start because I think people had gotten used to the Taste, and when we replaced it, people automatically went,” McCauley said. “They keep coming because it’s a great price for all the wine and hors d’oeuvres.”
The event is sponsored by Elmhurst Hospital, Itasca Bank & Trust, Rooster Express, Suburban Bank & Trust and The Bank of Commerce.
To purchase tickets or for information, call the chamber office at (630) 595-0505 or visit www.WoodDaleChamber.com.
“People keep coming each year. (Attendees) bring friends, and then they bring friends,” McCauley said. “We seemed to strike a chord, and it’s been wonderful because we are able to fund the scholarships and donate to the food pantry.”
