The city of Batavia has been recognized as a Gold Level Community.

Batavia was recognized as Gold Level during the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Clean Air Counts Campaign.

The city participates in Clean Air Counts, a northeastern Illinois regional initiative to reduce ozone-causing emissions. The goal is to improve air quality and make a healthier environment for communities.

In a letter to Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke, Clean Air Counts Executive Director David E. Bennett complimented Batavia for adopting “Green Policies” and said he wanted to feature Batavia on the Clean Air Counts Web site as a model policy.

Batavia is one of four communities to achieve this level of participation.
