A morning crash in downtown St. Charles that left a pedestrian dead is still under investigation, according to police.
Arlene K. Marshall, 69, of the 200 block of North Second Street in St. Charles, died this morning after being struck by the back wheels of a dump truck while crossing the street with her bicycle, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.
At 7:21 a.m. today, St. Charles police and fire personnel responded to reports of a crash with injuries at the intersection of North Second Street (Route 31) and West Main Street (Route 64) in downtown St. Charles.
When crews arrived, they determined Marshall had been struck while she was crossing Main Street at the intersection. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Preliminary investigation shows Marshall was pushing her bicycle across Main Street on the east side of the intersection when she was struck by the rear wheels of a dump truck. The truck was westbound on Main Street, making a right turn to travel north on North Second Street, reports state.
The Geneva Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team assisted St. Charles personnel at the scene.
Traffic has been re-routed on Route 31 since the time of the accident. Police and fire personnel are expected to clear the scene at about noon today.
