The Downtown Improvement Grant Program still has money for 2009 renovation projects.
The program, first launched in January, is in its first year and is available for downtown business owners who might be short on funding to make interior renovations to their properties.
Under the program, building or business owners are eligible for up to 50 percent of actual improvement costs, up to a maximum of $25,000.
The program has no deadline for applications and a budget of $50,000. More than half still is available for 2009 projects.
Mayor Jeffery Schielke said they decided to expand 2007’s Sprinkler Grant Program to include more interior work.
“Our goal is that by assisting in the funding of building improvements,” Schielke said. “We will see additional business activity in the downtown.”
Grants will be awarded based on goals for the downtown contained in redevelopment plans, the comprehensive plan and other city council objectives.
Eligible improvements include, but aren’t limited to fire alarm systems, accessibility improvements, energy conservation improvements and electrical work.
