The Illinois State Police will conduct a roadside safety check from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday at the Interstate 88 exit ramp at Route 31 in Kane County.
Officers will be watching for drivers who are operating unsafe vehicles, driving with suspended or revoked licenses, transporting open alcohol or driving under the influence.
Alcohol and drug impairment remain a significant factor in more than 40 percent of all fatal car crashes in Illinois, according to the state police.
The roadside safety check is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Traffic Safety administers the grant.
