A Batavia resident is being charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance Thursday after being found with 890 grams of cocaine at his house.
Abraham Ortiz, 35, 541 Washington Ave., is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, no firearm owners identification and unlawful possession of a fictitious identification card.
Members of the Kane County Sheriff’s Department Special Operations Unit executed a search at Ortiz’s home and found 890 grams of cocaine, over $1,900 in cash and a loaded 9 mm handgun.
Ortiz also has a warrant out of Lake County.
Kane County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Pat Genger said he is unsure what the exact warrant is out of Lake County, but said it is most probably traffic related.
Gengler said that in this case, Ortiz is being charged with intent to deliver due to the large amount of cocaine in his possession that he said goes “far beyond personal use.”
Ortiz is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on a $500,000 bond.
