A Batavia house fire caused an estimated $50,000 worth of damage Saturday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to a house on the 1000 block of Walnut Street at 10:08 p.m. Saturday responding to a fire on the second floor of a house.
Fire companies found the fire in a bedroom on the second floor, which also had extensive smoke damage.
Residents were not home at the time, and no one was injured. The last unit left the scene at 12:39 a.m. Sunday.
The Batavia Fire Department determined the fire was caused by the failure of an electrical cord for a floor fan.
Batavia was assisted by Geneva, Elburn, West Chicago, North Aurora and St. Charles fire departments.
It is estimated there was $35,000 in structure damage and $15,000 in damage to belongings.
