A Geneva man faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unlawful permitting of a minor to be intoxicated in connection with an underage drinking party.

James E. Hughes, 42, 117 Kane St., Geneva, was arrested at 1 a.m. Aug. 6.

Police say he answered the door at a warehouse at 3N670 17th St., St. Charles. He told officers it was his place of employment and that he was the only one there, said Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler.

The officers allegedly saw several beer cups and beer cans; further investigation netted alcohol-related charges against five Geneva teens who were with Hughes.

After being given breath tests, Kathryn Kleeman, 17, 741 Richards St.; Jillian Cadwallader, 17, 711 Fox Run Drive; Richard Sampson, 17, 0N917 Lea Drive; and Mitchell R. Lyons, 17, 2639 Danford Way, were charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

Antonios Roumeliotis, 17, 1561 Eagle Brook Drive, was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

All six have court dates on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Gengler said officers were tipped off by a father whose daughter was at the underage drinking party.

Hughes has a criminal record, including convictions for attempted murder, three counts of aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. He also has prior charges of domestic battery, theft, drunken driving and drug possession, but was not convicted of those charges, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
