Burglaries reported

- Someone broke into Smitty’s on the Corner, 15 E. Main St., by forcing open the side door and stole $41 from an unlocked cash box between 4:30 p.m. July 18 and 11:45 a.m. the next day.

- A set of golf clubs worth about $100, a racquetball racquet worth about $5 and 35 CDs worth a total of about $175 were reported stolen between 2:30 and 7 a.m. Friday, July 24, from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on the 1200 block of King James Avenue.

- An iPod worth about $250 and a pair of sunglasses worth $120 were reported stolen between 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, and 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, from an unlocked sport utility vehicle parked in a driveway on the 3700 block of King Charles Lane.

- A resident of the 1400 block of Fifth Street reported that $40 cash was stolen at about 5 a.m. June 12 from an unlocked car parked in her driveway. At about the same time, a neighbor reported seeing two unidentified men in an unlocked car in his driveway, according to police reports.

- The front license plate was taken from the dashboard of a Jeep without its top on between 8 a.m. July 15 and 10 p.m. July 17.

Retail theft scharged

- Christine M. Mrozek, 58, of Bartlett was charged with retail theft and Christine L. Collura, 40, of Elgin was charged with felony retail theft at about 4:15 p.m. June 21 for allegedly stealing clothing from Kohl’s, 3840 E. Main St. Collura allegedly stole $160 worth of clothing, and Mrozek allegedly stole about $140 worth of items.

- Eva Hernandez, 45, of West Chicago was charged with retail theft at about 2:45 p.m. July 9 for allegedly stealing a $36 pair of sunglasses from Kohl’s, 3840 E. Main St.

- Sloane Merdinger, 18, of Wayne was charged with retail theft at about 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, for allegedly stealing clothing items worth about $92 from Von Maur, 3810 E. Main St.


Property damage reported

- A faucet head in Rotary Park, 1200 Adams Ave., was reported broken shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday  July 25. A neighbor reported seeing three teenagers playing in the spraying water, but they ran away from the park before police arrived, according to police reports.

- A resident of the 400 block of Walnut Street reported that three cement statues in the yard were smashed between July 10 and July 15 while he was on vacation.

- The letters on the sign for Pheasant Run subdivision were pried off the wall and rearranged between 8 p.m. July 19 and 7 a.m. July 20. One of the letters also was missing. The cost of reattaching the letters is estimated to be $200, according to police reports.

- Graffiti was reported at Grimms Drugs, 1605 W. Main St., between 7 p.m. July 20 and 6 a.m. July 21. Rival gangs recently have painted graffiti on several businesses at the Valley Shopping Center, according to police reports.

Thefts reported

- About 60 feet of copper wire worth about $40 per foot was reported stolen from the St. Charles Public Works facility at 22 Devereaux Way between 3 p.m. June 19 and 2 p.m. June 29. An unknown offender cut the fence on the west side of the property to gain access to the wire, according to police reports.

- A vendor at the Kane County Fair reported that numerous jewelry items worth more than $300 were stolen from her booth at the fairgrounds between 10 p.m. July 17 and 10:45 a.m. July 18.

- Tires and wheels worth about $550 and a stereo worth about $100 were reported stolen between 6 p.m. July 18 and 9:30 p.m. July 19 from a customer’s car parked at Don McCue Chevrolet, 2015 E. Main St.

Disorderly conduct charged

Daniel L. Keresturi, 58, of Winfield was charged with disorderly conduct at about 9:15 a.m. July 21 for allegedly threatening to shoot three employees at Fifth/Third Bank, 1600 E. Main St.

Underage drinking charged

Scott R. Netwon, 20, of Wayne was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor at about 2:30 a.m. July 15 after he was allegedly found passed out in a movie theater at the Charlestowne 18, 3740 E. Main St.

Drug, traffic charges filed

Timothy D. Campbell, 23, of St. Charles DPetrella 7/28/09 no address givenwas charged with possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane use at about 11 p.m. July 2 after a traffic stop on the 4000 block of Lincoln Highway.
