BATAVIA, IL -

When it comes to the city of Batavia there is a common voice, and it belongs to Alan Wolff.

In 2003 Wolff claimed the position as alderman of the 2nd Ward, where he represents his fellow Batavians. He has worked on several projects important to the city’s development, like finding a site for a second bridge over the Fox River.

“We’ve only got one going through town at the moment,” Wolff said. “It’s very important to stretch another bridge over that river. The congestion with one bridge is just getting to be too much.”

In addition to being a voice for Batavia’s 2nd Ward, Wolff is the voice behind the microphone of Batavia’s private access television production, channels 10 and 17.

“There are so many citizens that think public access television is simply an avenue to record and broadcast the typical monthly board meetings held at various places around town,” he said.

In fact, with enrollment in a 90-minute class citizens are allowed to use the public access channels for just about anything one might want to promote. Though most material is welcome, it is sports that take the top shelf. It’s a great tool for coaches to use while reviewing recent games for errors and future strategies, Wolff said.

“We started out with one camera and one angle,” Wolff said. “We’re in the process of getting two cameras to pass over the field so we can add more depth to the reporting of these functions.”

Other improvements to come will include live play-by-play sporting events and interviews with coaches, said Jenny Glick, the television station’s program coordinator.

“Wolff cracks me up with his Bulldog spirit,” Glick said. “When he is running the play-by-play, if he doesn’t have his face painted in Batavia blue and white, he’s decked out in cheer-wear from head to toe.”

What does the future hold for Wolff?

“I’ll stick around doing the best job I can for the improvement of Batavia, at least as long as the voters want to keep me on board, that is,” Wolff said. “And I want make sure I put my kids through college.”
