Now that the Bartlett Park District has officially been declared the winner of the $18 million referendum, the major work to complete the projects is just beginning.
With a final tally of 5,882 votes in favor of the referendum and 5,289 votes against, the race to the end was definitely a tight one.
Moving forward, the park district will first hold a public hearing tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 11 that will take place during the Plan Commission meeting, said Superintendent of Parks and Planning Jon Carlson. The hearing will set the stage for the park district’s plan to re-annex 107 acres of Villa Olivia property, which was acquired by the city of Elgin in November 2009.
The village will vote on the reannexation and rezoning process at the next board meeting Nov. 16, as determined during Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled Village Board meeting.
The keys will be handed over to the Park District from longtime owners the Corrado family by Dec. 31.
According to Carlson, renovations to the golf course, banquet facility and ski area would not begin until fall 2011 and completed by fall 2012.
As for the Bartlett Aquatic Center, Aquatics Manager Laura Clark was thrilled the pool will see improvements made for the first time in its 18-year history.
“I’m so excited I get my pool,” Clark said.
The expanded aquatic center will see new features including a lazy river, a large splash pad and additional water slides, with work slated to begin the end of the summer season 2011 with a projected unveiling June 2012.
