
In the short period of a month, Dej Mills said a door was closed and a window was opened for Boutique Necessities and Spa by Dej, Mills’ new business.
Mills owned Black Tie Affair, which she was forced to close after not being able to afford the rent anymore. When she moved just blocks away, her customer base came to the rescue.

“Clients offered free help,” Mills said. “They wanted to make sure my business survived the recession.”
Mills, who has been a Bartlett resident for 20 years, said she is trying to work with the village of Bartlett and its residents to make sure her business and others in the area thrive.
“I love Barlett,” Mills said. “The customers are so loyal, they’ll just hang in there with you. Everything is so gloom and doom with the recession, I think we needed something to make the residents feel better.”
