Bartlett dogs will have their very own turf to tread after the city’s Park District obtained a $311,400 state grant.
Work for Riley’s Run park at Castle Creek, near Lambert Lane and Lake Street, is slated to begin this fall, said Bartlett Parks Director Rita Fletcher.
“I think it’s great to have our first dog park,” she said.
The eight-acre park will have separate fenced areas for big and small dogs, as well as tennis and basketball courts, a picnic shelter, a mini-arboretum, fitness stations and playground equipment.
In the fall, the Park District held a naming contest, which asked residents to submit names for the park. Other names considered for Riley’s Run included Tails a Waggin and Petticoat Junction.
Another new park is slated for a two-acre park at Bartlett Pointe, near West Bartlett Road and Fieldcrest Drive.
This park includes a skate spot and playground equipment.
Funds were awarded by a state Open Space Land Acquisition Development grant, secured by state Sen. John Millner, R-28th District, of Carol Stream.
